Wine Storage Pegs by Ernestomeda

I love when I see new and innovative ideas in wine storage design. These "wine storage pegs" by Ernestomeda are no exception. I love the simplicity, form, and function of this particular design. Someone has described them as resembling a Plinko board, and perhaps they have a point, but I love the possibility of versatility with these pegs. Shown here, the pegs are beautifully displayed in a symmetrical configuration, but I would love to see them arranged in other ways as well- perhaps arranged into particular shapes or maybe to spell something out... the possibilities are endless. The one thing I would mention about these particular pegs is that they are displayed above a stove and next to a window... no self respecting wine collector would put their wine in such a harmful location. 

 
 

Cork Furniture by Daniel Michalik

I came across some new and exciting pieces by New York based furniture designer Daniel Michalik. Daniel is known for creating pieces that focus on underutilized, unconventional materials. Lately he has been using cork for its naturally flexible, engaging, and environmentally responsible characteristics. Daniel uses this completely sustainable, recyclable, and plentiful material to create complex shapes, making it do things only it can do.

I would LOVE to see these pieces used in a tasting room or private cellar... absolutely stunning.

 

WineM- A Very Exciting Wine Cellar Prototype

 
OK... so this is soooooooooo cool!

There is a new wine cellar prototype that has just been announced and has me grinning from ear to ear. ThingM has come up with a "smart" wine cellar system called WineM. WineM uses a system that integrates the bar code from a bottle of wine and links it to a coding system they call RFIDs. The RFIDs that are attached to bottles then display which wines you are looking for using LED back lights behind the bottles. Wine collectors (or anyone with a large wine cellar) can use it to search through collections, track the location of specific bottles and manage inventory with a minimum of data entry.

So, say you want to visually identify all wines in your collection that are from California. With this technology the system will already have that information stored into the program and will instantaneously light up those wines with a specific LED color. Same goes for if you want to search out different varietals and even food pairings! This is such an exciting new idea in wine cellar design and I can't wait for it to hit the market.
