Just when you think you've seen it all...
The quaint town of Stavoren is one of the oldest ports and oldest towns in the Netherlands, dating back to 1118. The Hotel de Vrouwe van Stavoren (The Lady of Stavoren) has been listed many times as "one of the most original places to stay in the world". What makes it so original? When you stay at The Lady of Stavoren the rooms are made out of old wine casks! The wine barrels are of Swiss origin and used to contain more than 14,500 liters of wine. The beds stand inside the barrels and the curved round walls make for a cozy atmosphere. The ceilings are high enough for one to stand in and at the back of each barrel is a doorway leading into a sitting room and bathroom. Being that this hotel lies in a historic port town I think that these spaces could also make one feel as though they are in the galley of a ship.
If you're ever in the Netherlands be sure to check it out! It's going on my "Bucket List" as we speak.
